INDIVIDUALIZED SERVICES FOR CHILDREN and adolescents

Speech Sound Production:
As children develop speech, they learn how to move their lips, tongue, teeth, and other parts of their mouth to produce speech sounds. They also begin to learn how speech sounds are organized within their language. Sometimes children may have difficulty producing certain speech sounds or understanding how to use sounds correctly. These are called speech sound errors when they are unexpected for the child’s age. For example, a child might say “fink” instead of “think” or “wake” for “lake” or “rake.” Speech sound disorders can affect a child’s ability to read, write, spell, and communicate. With consistent speech therapy and at-home practice, we can help your child learn to speak more clearly and confidently.

Spoken Language:
Spoken language includes listening and speaking. A spoken language disorder affects a child’s ability to understand and use language when listening and speaking. Spoken language disorders can occur in isolation or they can co-occur with other disorders like ADHD and dyslexia. They might also be associated with another diagnosis like Autism. Spoken language is foundational for written language, so any difficulty with spoken language can also impact a child’s reading and writing. Speech therapy can help children improve spoken language skills, including choosing meaningful words, expanding their vocabulary, improving their grammar, and organizing their thoughts in clear sentences.

Written Language:
Written language includes reading and writing. A written language disorder affects a child’s ability to understand and use language when reading and writing. A child might have difficulty with word-level reading, spelling, comprehending texts, or formulating written material. By addressing these challenges early, speech therapy can help children develop stronger reading and writing skills that will support their academic success, including making inferences, summarizing a text, formulating a narrative, and editing an essay.
